This ushanka is a great find indeed. Despite some slight fur loss to the front flap, it would appear that when this Ushanka was taken as a souvenir (I sourced this from Germany), it was unissued or nearly so. The cotton fleece body is slightly soiled, but has nearly all the nap remaining. The ear flaps are secured with the original ties. The front flap has never been pierced for a star insignia, nor has it ever had its corners tied to the cap body as was nearly universally done by Soviet soldiers after these hats were issued. The interior is slightly soiled as well. It does have one short area of open stitching where the interior crown meets the sides, but this appears to be a simple manufacturing defect as opposed to damage. The interior is complete with a nice factory stamp and a clear 1940 date. A very fine specimen.
