Soviet Ssh-40...   This Helmet is the archetype construction of the 1944-1945 period, that is it has the undyed, natural colored chinstrap.  It has the proper LMZ factory stamp and is a Size 1.  All liner pads are intact and of the proper wartime material and construction. The shell retains a lot of original paint and plenty of patina.  The top of the dome there is a stress fracture, which is not uncommon on these size 1 shells.  Despite the fracture, this helmet is a textbook specimen of a late war Ssh-40, and one we can offer at an attractive price.

For your consideration is this rarity.  Offered is the Luftwaffe survival machete by ALCOSO. Walnut handle with brass furniture and a nice blade.  The scabbard has some denting near the bottom, but the blued finish is in good condition.  This specimen is set apart with it's lovely green web "tropical" frog.  A nice opportunity to pick up an uncommon edged weapon.

Offer is this amazing jacket and trouser pair.  After a nearly two year drought, we recently scored the wartime telogreika and vatni sharovari set out of the German woodwork.  Soiled, but in great condition overall, this pair offers the collector a change at the classic winter look of the Red Army.  The telogrieka shows the signature wartime construction and material make up.  This jacket is missing one cuff button, but the up side is that all the buttons that are on it are the factory original composite buttons.   There is some uneven fading from storage, but this is a solid specimen of this classic Red Army jacket.   The interior is devoid of any markings. The trousers will not disappoint either.   Again, signature wartime construction.  In this case, a low cut waist and no knee reinforcements, which is indicative of the earlier and mid-war years.  This pair of trousers has all the original factory buttons and both ankle ties intact.   The suspender buttons have been added, and are of German origins.  Interior of the trousers is stamped with a factory mark and are sized "3".  No visible date. Finding these items outside of the militaria market has grown near impossible.  This is an opportunity to add a great winter set to your collection.

Offered is this Soviet Ssh-39 helmet.  This example is a size 2, and the date can be made out to be "39".  This helmet has received a darker green overpaint during its life.  There is nothing broken or cracked, but this helmet does have a small hole drilled through the brim as if it was being hung on a nail at some point.  The chinstrap is a postwar replacement that has had the metal tip removed to approximate the type that was typically applied to these early Ssh-39s.  This is a unique opportunity to obtain an Ssh-39 with the early graylex liner at an affordable price.

For your consideration is this 1940 dated, Size 2, Soviet Ssh-39 Helmet, with a very uncommon brown graylex liner.   This helmet is complete with full liner and chinstrap, with clear factory markings.

Offered is the Ssh-40 helmet.  This helmet is a textbook specimen in terms of materials and construction  for Ssh-40 made at LMZ in 44 and 45.  This helmet has the proper 3 graylex pads and a white cotton chinstrap to be expected on this vintage LMZ Ssh-40.  The factory stamp is clear and shows a size of 2 and L-44.    The chinstrap on this helmet is a bit short and the buckle has been replaced with a proper type from a postwar chinstrap, but is identical to what would have been on it in every way.  Likewise, the seller informs us that the drawstring is also from a post war helmet.  Again, Identical in every way to what would have been in it originally.  Because it is short, the chinstrap will not display over the helmet visor.

Offered is this fabulous Ssh-39 in the archetypical LMZ configuration.  This is  large helmet, Size 3 shell and 60cm liner.  The LMZ factory mark is clear.  All complete, with no damage issues.  A fabulous specimen overall.  These keep getting tougher to find, so don't miss this one if you are in the market.

Wartime Luftwaffe Seat/Parachute.  This is an incomplete specimen as far as the packing is concerned.  We have not (and will not) unpack it further.  Oral history on this item is that it was sent home to be used for a wedding dress by a vet that ended up KIA before the war's end.  There is no further provenance to this.   What remains is in good condition and quite clean. Some dents and scuffs to the aluminum seat form.  Designation label is intact.  This would make a good place holder in a Luftwaffe flieger collection as 100% complete rigs can get quite expensive.

Offered is this rather nice Red Army Tent/Poncho or "Plasch Palatka".   This one is nice because of the relatively low level of fading to the olive color.  It is an earlier specimen, appears to be dated 38 or 39.  Most of the toggles are in place.  The drawstrings are partially there.  The leather corner grommets a very soft and flexible, which is uncommon to see. If you needed one for a Red Army display or kit, this is a strong candidate.

Offered is and interesting late war Vesh Meshok, the widely used drawstrink pack.  This example is unssiued, near mint, from stocks, and is dated 44.   It is interesting because it (and several others we go with it) were factory made with no drawstrings.  The top is hemmed over to form the channel for the string, but there is no access to it.  So, a simplified construction.  Once properly tied up at the top with the shoulder strap loop, the drawstring is not needed.

Pre-war Soviet Ssh-36 Helmet Shell.   This shell is in nice condition, with a high percentage of the original paint remaining.  Also included is the original, buckle side to the chin strap.  No visible ink stamp, but impact stamped size 3, so a Medium-Large.  The left and right side liner mounting tabs are each missing 1 prong.   This is an excellent candidate for living history rebuild.

Offered is this desirable Soviet camouflage over suit.  This is the spring version in Green and Dark Brown, of the classic Amoeba Pattern that is so iconic to Soviet scouts and combat engineers.  This suit is from an old collection, and has come from former military stocks in mint, unissued condition.  Consists of the Smock, Trousers, and Issue Bag.  Absolutely genuine, this suit has the proper construction, in the the correct and almost "whisper thin" cotton cloth.  Pattern exhibits the high degree of ink bleed through to the inside, that is so telling to original camouflage of this type.  All the original, composite resin buttons are present.  Just an outstanding piece.

The 2019 MAX Show was a bit anti-climactic for Sean and I.  However, we did manage to find one great helmet to pass on.  Offered is this Luftschutz reissued, Soviet Ssh-39 helmet.  Typically, we pass on these, but this specimen has a lot going for it.  In terms of factory condition, this helmet is all original.  The liner, chinstrap, and liner drawstring are the original Soviet applications.  The Luftschutz decal is mostly intact, and there is just enough paint loss to demonstrate the original Soviet factory green showing through.  Also visible through the Luft blue is the presence of the original, factory applied red star insignia.  Best of all, this helmet has a complete liner, of the early Kirza made, finger type.  An early made Ssh-39 impressed into German service.

This may be the most inexpensive bit of SS insignia you will ever find.  This tab, or what is left of it, is an original collar tab for personnel assigned to temporary duty as a concentration camp guard.  The buckram backing is gone and there is evidence of scrapbook mounting to the reverse.

We picked this tunic up at the TMCA show in Nashville a year or so ago with the intent of finishing up the restoration.  We have since decided, we don' t have the band width to take it on.  This was a stripped tunic that someone started work on, but did not complete.  The button application, rank chevron, awards loops and breast eagle are all part of the restoration effort.  The eagle was machine sewn by opening up the liner at the closure facing and then resewing it.  The chevron is machine sewn, but starting to come off as the person doing the work got too close to the edge.  All of this work, the button sewing, and a few hole repairs were all done with the same thread.  Were we to take this on, we would completely start over.  The work is presentable, but a skilled hand could do better.   The tunic is in solid condition, but is missing the shoulder board loops, and the interior belt support straps.  The grey artificial silk liner is in good condition otherwise and the tunic is RBNr. marked.  It is a decent size for torso display.

Offered is this early motto bladed Hitler Youth Fahrtenmesser.  This knife is an average specimen, showing the effects of being carried by a young boy.  The scabbard has lost all its original finish, and appears to have been helped along in that effort.  The handle keeper strap has lost the bottom half of the press stud and has become separated from the top rivet.  The knife is missing the leather washer, and most of the red enamel from the lower point of the diamond.  The blade has seem some sharpening and use, but the full shape seems to still be intact.  The "Blut und Ehre" motto is present, but a bit faded from cleaning.   Marked for the Hartkopf & Co. Solingen, with that makers logo.

Offered is this interesting side cap for a Heer NCO or EM.  Cut in a more pale shade of field gray, this cap is also unusually lined in a natural cotton cloth.  Overall condition is very nice, with some nap loss and staining, but no major damage or holes.  It is unmarked, but probably sized around 56cm.  The early type, green backed insignia are hand applied.  An interesting cap, possibly from a small maker, or artisan as opposed to a larger uniform factory.

Offered is this rather presentable rural police bayonet with eagle head pommel, stag handle, and police eagle and wreath.  Unfortunately it is the bayonet only, the scabbard is missing. Still, someone out there needs this for their empty scabbard or nice scabbard with a substandard bayonet.  There is some wear and finish loss to the plating, but the overall condition is still good.  Blade is maker marked to the Weyersberg & Kirschenbaum firm of Solingen and is unit marked S.B. 10135.

Offered is this very interesting Heer pattern zeltbahn.  This example is mostly complete and free of major damage or repairs.  It is an earlier example with all aluminum hardware.  What is most interesting are the markings, in particular the 2 Esk.    This is a bit difficult to decipher with no other context, but based on the U.S. Army compilation of German military abbreviations, this could be 2nd Eskorte (mounted convoy escort) or the 2nd Eisenbahnsonderkommando (special railroad service command).  Very nice zelt.

While not complete, the M40 combat helmet is rather stunning.  This helmet is a single decal combat helmet for the Kriegsmarine.  This is evident in the bold gold tone of the visible metallic. Likewise, the layered KM decal's metallic areas ( the eagle, and swastika) have reacted in a unique way with the camo paint. These areas have  have ghosted through the camo paint.  The shell is a nice size, and EF66. The factory grey paint has been over sprayed in a dark yellow. The liner skin is gone, as is the chinstrap. Only remnants of each remain.  Liner bands and split pins are original to the helmet.
